Una de las características primordiales de los sones de pareja es que al momento de estar bailando, los viejos toman a las viejas por la cintura para que, por cada frase dancística, viejos y viejas vayan cambiando su frente haciendo la danza más ágil. Mientras están bailando por parejas, los viejos que van a pedir su participación lo hacen con una voz que los distingue: "¡Con permiso compañero!".
