El basalto, roca tan abundante en la región, fue aprovechado para la fabricación de herramientas utilizadas en la construcción de la ciudad: pulidores para apisonar, plomadas para asegurar la óptima inclinación de los edificios y goznes o bisagras para facilitar el uso de puertas en las viviendas.
