Máscara de piedra verde
Los grandes gobernantes mayas del periodo Clásico decidieron colocar sus tumbas al interior de los templos más importantes de sus ciudades, que se convertían después en mausoleos y lugares de culto. Allí eran depositados con numerosas ofrendas y un elaborado ajuar funerario, en el cual las máscaras de jade desempeñaban un papel fundamental al cubrir el rostro del dignatario y preservar su imagen a través de los siglos.
