Muerte y tránsito de san Francisco
San Francisco que perdió la vista pocos días antes de su muerte, pidió en su agonía que lo trasladaran a Santa María de la Porciúncula. Allí murió rodeado por sus hermanos más allegados el 3 de octubre de 1226 y fue sepultado al día siguiente. Uno de sus más fieles seguidores vio que su alma ascendía al cielo. Se observa junto a san Francisco al único personaje femenino, en las biografías de este santo se le denomina Madona Jacoba quien se dice, tuvo el privilegio de estar cerca del lecho de muerte de san Francisco de Asís. A los pies de la estera donde yace san Francisco aparece un cordero, que acaso aluda a la oveja que siguió al santo durante su vida.
