Manuel Pastrana tituló así este lienzo, el cual participó en una de las bienales de la Academia de San Carlos. Se muestra el ideal de la pintura mexicana del momento: retomar temas de la mitología clásica en personajes con prototipos mexicanas idealizados. La figura de Hercúles representa la fortaleza, de ahí que tenga como atributo un león, símbolo poder. Este lienzo fue vetado por los maestros de la Academia y Pastrana tuvo que agregar al modelo un lienzo rojo sujetado del hombro.
