Es posible que Cabrera, Miguel haya tomado en cuenta las recomendaciones iconográficas de Francisco Pacheco. Se dice que la Virgen María se encontraba en su casa de noche, leyendo y meditando sobre la profecía de Isaías, cuando llegó el Arcángel san Gabriel con el mensaje de Dios: “El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti y el poder del Altísimo te cubrirá con su sombra, por eso el niño será santo, será llamado Hijo de Dios”.
