Los bebedores de pulque
El género de pintura costumbrista desarrollado durante el siglo XIX en México retrató los tipos populares de la naciente sociedad mexicana en escenas típicas y cotidianas que reviven tiempos pasados. Uno de los principales representantes de este género fue el pintor poblano Agustín de Arrieta, quien con extremo cuidado plasmaba en su obra actitudes, vestimenta y costumbres.En esta obra, que se inserta dentro de este género, podemos apreciar la fidelidad con que fueron captados la "catrina" de vidrio llena de pulque, las texturas de las diferentes telas con que están confeccionadas las prendas de vestir, así como la actitud de los enamorados, que discretamente se toman la mano.
