Un recorrido a lo largo de las interpretaciones y soluciones arquitectónicas y espaciales del edificio teatral tanto en Europa como en México, entre los siglos XVI y XIX, para encontrar los orígenes y raíces que llevaron al arquitecto Lorenzo de la Hidalga al proyecto del Gran Teatro Nacional; se detiene después en un detallado análisis de forma y estructura del edificio, apoyada en documentos de primera mano, mediante una difícil labor de búsqueda en los archivos de la ciudad.
