Los cinco señores
Entronizados y en distintos niveles, Villalpando pinta a los “Cinco Señores” o la Sagrada Familia, es decir, María, José, el Niño Jesús y sus abuelos san Joaquín y santa Ana. Esta alegoría resume la genealogía del Salvador descrita en el Evangelio de San Mateo. Se observa la representación simbólica del linaje de Cristo, llamada árbol de Jesé; árbol genealógico que encuentra su origen en una profecía de Isaías: “Jesucristo nacería del tronco de Jesé”.
