Juan María de Salvatierra
Nació en Milán, Italia, en el año de 1648, ingresó a muy temprana edad a la Compañía de Jesús, solicitando a su superior le enviara a las misiones de las Indias, fue comisionado a México, a donde llegó en 1691. Concluyó sus estudios de teología en el colegio de San Pedro y San Pablo, ese mismo año fue enviado a las misiones del norte, donde recorrió los territorios de Sinaloa junto con el padre Kino. En 1697 logró reunir los fondos necesarios para evangelizar California y fundó el pueblo de Loreto en honor de la imagen de María que llevaba consigo, allí desarrolló su labor evangelizadora hasta 1704, cuando fue nombrado provincial de la Nueva España.
