Jesús ante Pilato
Esta pintura recrea dos pasajes del Nuevo Testamento: el primero, cuando Jesús fue presentado ante Poncio Pilato, el cual se lavó las manos en señal de desacuerdo ante la decisión de los judíos diciéndoles: "Pongo por testigo al sol de que no encuentro culpa alguna en este hombre, tomadle vosotros y juzgadle según vuestras leyes". (1) Jesús viste túnica azul, que simboliza sabiduría divina.El segundo representa la Primera Estación del Vía Crucis: "Por tu amor dicen los improperios, he castigado a Egipto en sus primogénitos; y tú me has entregado a la muerte, después de haberme azotado. He caminado ante ti en la columna de nube: Y tú me has conducido al pretorio de Pilato". (2)La serie de este Vía Crucis consta de catorce pinturas, las cuales estuvieron ubicadas en la iglesia de san Francisco Javier hasta el año de 1930.(1) Aurelio de los Santos Otero, Evangelios apócrifos, Actas de Pilato, cap.
