En este libro Margarita Tortajada estudia la danza escénica −aquella que tiene vocación artística e implica una formación académica y disciplinaria− desde las mujeres y sus creaciones, representaciones y experiencias; busca explicar por qué en la sociedad patriarcal, donde las mujeres han tenido una participación marginal y silenciosa, concretamente en la dama escénica ellas han sido las protagonistas, cómo lo han logrado y qué repercusiones ha tenido para ellas y para la danza misma.
